Thank goodness a love of liberty is still deeply engrained in the American character. Compared to the other developed nations, with the possible exception of Switzerland, we are the most capitalist, and the most affluent. We also have a broad based prosperity, where even among the comparatively poor, cars and airconditioners are not terribly uncommon, and many blue collar workers own their own houses. We are also, incidentally, comparatively successful at integrating minorities into this country. The French, for example, tend to think of those who are not of the right ethnic stock as Vietnamese or Senegalese or Jewish, even when they are citizens of France and have lived in the country for their whole lives. The English still don't accept citizens of color as being "really English". And the Germans have made it terribly difficults for Turks who have been resident in the country for decades to become citizens......
