Did you see Morley Safer reports on gene patents on CBS the other night?

Many biotechs own patents on genes. The show talked about what rights do citizens have when their own genes are patented by a company. True, no one owns the complete human genome, but biotechs own the rights to any research or products resulting from work on specific genes. There's no getting around that. You can watch the recorded version on the CBS website that I've pasted below.

"Whose Body Is It Anyway?"
" Now that scientists have mapped the
human genome, there's not only a rush to find the cures and
preventions for diseases that genes may provide, but to own those
genes through patents. Morley Safer explores this newest ethical
quagmire. "
