From a GS note from yesterday on communication chip co's, including BRCM and VTSS:

>>> CONTINUE TO BE CAUTIOUS DESPITE POSSIBLE FED-INDUCED RALLIES
Although a more favorable monetary policy will eventually help us out of
the difficult times ahead, we believe it is likely to get worse before
it gets better. We do not believe any near-term fed-induced rally will
prove sustainable and continue to believe there is downside in the group
until all hopes of a second half recovery are dashed. Although we do
believe the comm IC companies will emerge from this downturn much
stronger and more important in the food chain than ever before, we
believe the stocks will begin to bottom when we can more accurately
reflect the prospects for 2002.<<<
