Alcatel's fully integrated voice gateway module enables highly scalable voice over digital subscriber line (VoDSL) and represents an important step towards deploying bundled broadband services from a single platform, allowing service providers to maximize revenue per copper line. Alcatel's 7300 ASAM now offers transparent analogue services, placing it at the heart of converged voice and data networks by enabling carriers to launch high quality and value-added voice services while leveraging their existing operations and support systems (oSS). For networks where the DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM) and voice switches are not co-located, Alcatel provides the voice gateway module capability in the new standalone 7310 Loop Voice Gateway (LVG). The Alcatel DSLAM-integrated gateway and Alcatel 7310 LVG are identical in terms of functionality and manageability, enabling service providers to combine both standalone and integrated VoDSL in the same network. According to Gartner Dataquest's end user surveys, 65 percent of European operators are planning on deploying VoDSL equipment in their networks. marcus evans Market Research estimate that revenues for VoDSL-based services could exceed US$44 billion globally by 2005, US$15 billion in Europe. "With Alcatel's integrated VoDSL gateway, a significant step has been taken in overcoming the costly hurdle of equipment integration", said Lyle Burwell of marcus evans. "The benefits to end users and service providers alike are compelling - converged infrastructure, broadband connectivity and multiple voice lines". Norbert Hölzle, Managing Director at Callino, a leading German alternate service provider, said, "Alcatel's DSL solution means we are able to enjoy the benefits of a next generation network today. Voice over DSL gives us the opportunity to offset the cost of unbundled access by getting maximum value for each copper line. This means substantial cost savings as we roll out a fast-growing service portfolio dependent on ubiquitous broadband access, and Callino is able to pass on those benefits to our customers." Willem Verbiest, President of Alcatel's DSL Activities, said, "The combination of high speed internet access, voice over DSL and G.shdsl makes the Alcatel 7300 ASAM the only platform able to offer a complete service package to the business market. This is a major step towards enabling profitable new services through the integration of extended DSL functionality on Alcatel's leading broadband access platform". The integrated voice gateway module and standalone 7310 will be available for markets outside of North America in April 2001. Alcatel's ANSI-based VoDSL solution, the Alcatel Voice Gateway, was launched last year, and is currently available in the USA and Canada.
