Where do you see the loss of freedom? the loss of the small farmer is a loss of freedom as we become more and more dependent on fewer and fewer companies for our food. We, as individuals, have less say, and they have more say over our very lifes. Regional disasters with weather are not isolated, they affect the price of food across the nation, and how much we can store for the future (with certain crops) and how much we can give to others. Eventually the sky will fall. that is a given, be it by man-made action or natural weather cycle. It is only prudent to plan for the future, if we want there to be one.
