So you need to parse these press releases as carefully as you do G*'s SEC filings. > My point was that it Qualcomm uses re-packaged "License Agreement" Announcements in order to act as "Press Release Fillers".. First EAnywhere signs the "Standard CDMA License Agreement" to to develop, manufacture and sell subscriber unit and modem card products for IS-95, cdma2000 and 1xEV (HDR) applications. Then 12 weeks later. They sign an "Expanded License Agreement".. to include the development, manufacture and sale of subscriber equipment for WCDMA and TD-SCDMA products. Seems like "fluffery" to me.. Why didn't they just get the whole license agreement at one time? In addition.. A even newer subscriber license has been "created".. And that is the "Modem Card License".. So now everyone gets a "Modem Card License".. So that's worth another 80 Press Releases!! I would sure hope that the "Modem Card License" licenses have a "Much Higher" Royality that standard subscriber equipment.. The reason for such is that when I first got interested in Qualcomm, and it's royalty chain.. I looked at the cell phone market and said.. Well, the phones are $300 so that $15 dollars per phone @ a 5% royalty.. Sounds good!! Now the same type of phone is only $99.. So thats only $5 per phone.. So now you have to sell 3X the ASICS and phones to achieve the same royalty run rate as when the phones sold for $300 But, the Big Picture was the "Other Devices" such as Laptop Computers, Handheld PDA's etc.. Now I was looking at devices that cost $500 to $2500.. So the royalty's really started running into some pretty large numbers... "Real Fast".. Now the "Modem Card" seems it will "defray" the royality on the "Big Ticket Items" by means of a $200 plug in Card!! So I would hope the "royalties" on the Modem Card are "Much Higher" to defray the lost royalty's on the Devices they will be used in.. PCSTEL
