First, everybody calls about everything to gather intelligence.

I didn't say ALL carriers, just the majors. Mightylakers pointed out they signed up some outfit in Romania last week. I'm sure at least some people from some carriers called.

Keep in mind that 30+ infra contracts have already been signed, so the major Euro carriers have pretty much made commitments for infra. The w-CDMA delay issue does not appear to be infra, but handsets.

So, I'd be interested in a plausible theory as to how GSM/1Xev-DO dual-band handsets come about to be. Who makes the chips, who makes the handsets and to what form factor?

Unless there are MAJOR contracts signed, the answer might well be nobody. (I think the best chance actually might be with the GSM base in China, if IS-95 can actually get going.)
