bosquedog: The investment letter could have been written by one of a dozen doomsayers. I get one of these every other week, the most strident being from a "guru" named Martin Weiss. They all: (1) called the precise bottom for the NASDAQ (2) will make 400% returns a year for you with minimal risk; (3) believe there is a deep-seated conspiracy to steal your wealth, etc., etc., Anyway, you get the idea. Fact is, all of these "gurus" are FOS. When tracked objectively by the Hulbert Digest, none of them are worth the paper they are printed on.

As for analysts being worthless and not being objective, what else is new? If there is anyone on this thread that makes his or her investments based on analyst recommendations, he/she deserves the miserable results that will inevitably result from their recommendations.

One final point -- the brokerages do not "protect" their wealthy clients; they are as clueless to market direction and dynamics as their analysts.
