Thanks for the post. I guess we can add to my answer for the previous post that
some people lie out of shame or embarrassment. I suspect that the reason for this
is that you place too much importance on what others think of you. People often base
or sense of worth or self-esteem on the opinions of others, so it is quite common to
think that way. However, that belief makes you easily embarrassed and probably shy
and fearful of taking a chance socially. This may also lead you to put yourself down,
like thinking of yourself as a dork. Once you get over the idea that you need
approval, while still wanting it, you will realize that you can change whatever dorky
behaviors you have had in the past. If someone doesn't like you for who you are,
that is their problem. Not everyone will like you, no matter how cool you are, nor will
nobody like you no matter how uncool. The problem with this kind of lying is that it
keeps you from having any real intimacy because few people get a chance to really
know you. You might want to try some of my self-help tools. For example, ask
yourself what is the worst that can happen if you tell the truth. You might also want
to consider getting a few sessions of cognitive-behavioral therapy to help you learn
how to manage your feelings. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
