>>I don't like Jesse Helms too much.

Well, like him or not, Helms is the most significant Senator of the last quarter of the 20th Century.

And it was Helms that helped propel Reagan to victory in the 1976 GOP primaries (RR lost the nomination due to establishment-controlled delegations). Winning the NC primary changed history. W/o that Reagan would not have won the 1980 nomination and the GOP would not be the majority party today. It would have continued in the "me-too" fashion that had relegated it to permanent minority status.

re:"Also, I don't appreciate being called a bigot. You demo-lib types ..."

I'm sure you don't but most bigots don't even recognize that they are, they just assume everyone thinks the way they do.. It was you enigmatic comment about Rangle plus naming 3 African-Americans as people you dislike that triggered my response.

"All I have on Rangle is that he feeds into the stereotype that the people he claims to represent can't do it on their own.

Now what exactly do you mean by the above statement?

" Why do you feel he is a good leader for the dems?"

Because he represents the common sense humanistic ideal that most Democrats share...He also represents his constituancy in a way I'd like my congressman to represent me.

"Who are the leaders YOU look up to (or feel the public should) in the demo party?"

The Clintons (despite all the hate mongers), John Kerry, Bob Kerry, Tom Daschle, Rangle, Jimmy Carter, Ann Richards, John Breaux, Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein, Al Gore( despite running a dumb campaign), Paul Wellstone, Janet Reno, Daniel Moynihan, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, Dick Durbin,Joe Lieberman..... I do not like Torricelli (NJ) or Dell Miller (GA)

Among the Repubs I like McCain, Powell, Bush Sr., Christie Whitman, used to like Henry Hyde until his hypocrisy was revealed, Hastert seems OK, Arlan Specter most times, and Dick Lugar... and BTW, Cheney's background is extreme right...
