What are these "shields" Nadine?. I own a business and have some capital (less and less every day lately). The only shields I have been able to come up with are mortgage interest and charitable contributions. Please enlighten me on the others.

Scott, if you have not been able to move expenses such as car leasing into the business and deduct them, lower the business profits, its taxes, and its payout to yourself, then you should change accountants.

You are not qualified (and neither is the dem party) to decide who gets what

Every tax system decides who gets what, and legislators make the decisions. Who are you going to give the decision to, the Archangel Gabriel? Gazillions of dollars are spent on the hill every day ensuring that major lobbying groups get tax advantages. If the Democratics throw a sop to the working classes now and then, it's more than the Republicans will do.

Do you think it's more fair to tax a worker who earns $20,000 a year and cannot afford rent and food as it is at the same rate as someone who earns $500,000 a year? Does that strike you as more fair than a progressive system?
