DAK,

My mom works at Merrill, small office about 5 brokers. I've talked to them before and I swear I understand the market far more than they all do [I'm not only referring to the current market, but in generalities of markets]. A broker is nothing more nothing less than a pencil pusher. They spend all day on the phone and rarely follow the markets themselves. Their "insight" comes from the corporate office that has its own agenda and its own stock to unload into its reco's. Thier skill is that they passed the exam, that's about it. Like anyone else, the ones that have been seen as brilliant over the last decade had mistaked a bull market for brains and most likely still haven't learned. I'm sure there are many talented brokers out there, but the numbers have to be small. I look at it this way, if a broker truly knew what the f*ck they were doing they'd be doing for themselves ONLY, they wouldn't waste 60-70 hours a week on their clients.
