codswallop. I was watching the political scene in 1981; Reagan got his budgets, which included big cuts to many social programs dear to the Democrats. He also promised a balanced budget by 1984; the deficit was running over $100 billion a year by then, and interest on the debt took an ever increasing chunk of revenues.
