"the of the insane 2000 rate increases" . . . Pul-leese! The FED's hand was forced to pump up liquidity when Asia, South America, Mexico, & Russian economies almost collapsed due to bad loan/investment practices. Then along came the runaway train of the Internet and the Internet Casino Investing phenomena that caused select groups of stocks to inflate to ridiculous levels while most other stocks remained ignored and depressed. So the FED had no other choice but to clamp down on irrational exuberance or else the false economy would continue to starve off reasonable business.

The crash is supply the bursting of a giddy bubble of excess. Many companies are doing just fine. Look at the advance decline line and new highs to new lows in the DOW; it was positive today despite the index being down. The broad market isn't doing that badly despite the decline in the fat pig darlings that most analysts and investors love to focus on to the exclusion of everything else.
