OT Re:"worst earthquake in American history" It also built the landscape that I played on in my youth. Reelfoot Lake, Chisholm Lake Bluff, Sunk Lake Hill (where a lake sunk, duh). Beautiful country with tall trees and Bald Eagles. The earthquake created Reelfoot lake, which caused the Mississippi to run backwards 3 days while filling.

Unless you live in St. Louis the fault is generally not known about. I was there during the late sixties when a minor one hit. It scared the hell out of me.

Well, then, you would not have liked today's quake in Seattle. A lot of jittery people on the streets of Seattle today.
