PT,

The Loma Prieta quake was a deep quake 50 miles south of Stanford. Any illusions they have of SLAC's survivability of a surface quake along the penninsula, are just that- illusions.

We have been lucky in the US that there have been no surface quakes in heavily populated areas since 1906. (I don't consider Anchorage 1964 to be heavily populated.)

This unfortunately has led people in California to a false sense of security.
