I don't think its remarkable at all. After all, their OS sits on 92% of all client PCs shipped last year - up 3% from the year before.

I'm sure that MSFT could attain 100% saturation and still grow the license numbers by sheer weight of licensing changes as we've seen them do this past year (I'm referring to the volume licensing agreements). Wonder if they make the distinction if a company that purchases a volume discount and installed Windows 9x insteas of Windows 2000 Professional....

Anyways - MSFT's growth as you call it is not actually new PC sales but replacement PC sales or what is called "market maintanence" so it's not as impressive as you make it to be.
