I agree that will be great....but I am not so sure that it will result in less of the product being purchased. It may encourage people to take risks on downloading one or two tracks to try them out...and buying more than they otherwise might. If people perceive they are getting greater value....15 songs they like for 8 bucks instead of 2 songs they like for 15 bucks....who's to say they might not end up spending more of their entertainment dollars on music versus other things?

The best analogy I can come up with is the advent of the VCR in the late 70's. It was said it would kill the movie theaters, because people wouldn't need to go there anymore.

It didn't. What happened is that people's love of movies grew, as they were able to feed that through more than one medium. Instead of seeing 8 movies a year, lots of people see 30 or 40 between cable and video and theaters. It created more interest in movies, and more product than ever is available to satiate that interest.

People love music. Lots of people. Lots of music. The market is there, all they have to do is not screw it up.
