In October, 1987, most brokerage houses simply took the phones off the hook. (I got carried off on my shield in that one) A good pal of mine who had been warning me for many months to get to the sidelines (which I ignored,.... everything looked good to me), took half a day to "educate" me as to why they do this when "there are no buyers, only sellers" No doubt we will see such things again, but with a bit more technological flair (as in "denied access", etc.) (g)

Anyone have a SCHWab account?
I find it very interesting (informative?) that each
morning when I log on - they make me sign (ok) their
user agreement. It used to be a couple times a year
when that appeared. Now it is daily. Seem to be covering
themselves legally for bad executions if (god forbid)
a melt down happens one day.

I can only imagine the scenario unfolding as all online
broker sites just freeze up in the event of a BK. Phone
lines jammed etc etc.


Since I do not see this, it seems likely that there is some kind of a configuration problem on your computer that doesn't allow it to remember that you have already signed the agreement. Give Schwab customer service a call.

Yeah, that is sure irritating, but I suspect that it is a system glitch rather than some ass covering scheme. Legally, once you sign it you have signed it.

And you are right about what will happen to the brokers if anything big happens. 1998 was a good example, everything just locked up tighter than a drum. So you need to put in some stop orders if you think something big is about to happen and just pray it all works out right.

I have a Schwab account, and have seen the problem in the past. Are you using different computers, one at home and one at work? I was going nuts for a while until I determined that any time you switch computers, the agreement pops up. Don't know the general-case fix -- I just stopped using it at home.
