I don't want to get stuck on a word, so I guess when I guess we are talking about acceptable, justifiable, rationalizable, tolerable, permissible, or allowable, in this context we are really discussing what each of us could "support as law."

While I reel at the details of late trimester abortions, and anecdotal claims of women cavalierly aborting their viable fetuses, I am more than a bit skeptical that the anecdote reflects the norm. I support legislation of a woman's right to choose all the way through. I struggle with third trimester abortion, but it comes down to my belief that there must be compelling reasons for a woman and her doctor to agree to schedule any third trimester termination, and that I could not imagine any scenario wherein case by case approval could be enacted fairly.

But all that is beside the point. Maybe we should use the word support, and keep in mind that we may be personally opposed, but support the position for others.
