It's all about network build out and improvement of technology. 1x is aiming for that. As for the speed, the chance you get that 144Kbps flying on the freeway is low however I think you only need a speed that better than GPRS can offer<ggg> Oh with HDR, you can get better than that, if we are not using it in the same time<g>
