...1x vs GPRS time table in the US. I wonder how many sleepless nights have that been giving Armstrong?

In this regard, I have been thinking about Irwin's answer to the last analyst question about the meaning of Verizon's purchase of additional spectrum, whether it means VZ will roll out 1x/EV or "switch" to WCDMA because of its connection to Vodafone.

He said that VZ is rolling out 1X and is testing 1x/EV. He indicated that the additional spectrum in NYC was needed because of growth in demand for VZ's wireless services there (and to keep valuable spectrum out of competitors' hands).

He made a comment about how it will be interesting to see the direct competition between Sprint/VZ on the CDMA side and T with GSM/GPRS, etc. Then he added something about Cingular that sounded as if their decision was still not certain.

I know that all of Cingular's public statements have been in support of GPRS and by inference the eventual rollout of WCDMA. But I thought I heard something in the way Irwin answered that was saying we may be in for a pleasant surprise.

Not wanting to start any rumors <g> or get anyone's hopes up, so did anyone else hear this?
