When I get some more time we have to talk. I bought Video Blaster MovieMaker USB, for video capture from a Sony Hi8, I want to convert all my video to digital, then onto CDROM.

Really pleased at the quality, the reason I want it all on CD is the ability to search the video faster. Of course prized video will still be on tape, you still can't beat the quality when played on the TV.

I am running a Dell XPS450 P2 with 128MB of ram, and a ATI 32MB Rage Fury video card, and the system runs very nice and smooth. Some of my videos are 500MB ++ in size and I see not performance issues as of yet. My new Dell, when I get it, should be a lot faster for this work. It will be a Dell 8100 P4 either a 1.3 or 1.5.

hi steve

thanks again for the input. i still have on-going questions about drives operating simultaneously off of one controller card. and now that i have taken another look inside my box (i just paid a visit to perform general cleaning and reseat cards and check all connections), i note that the ata-66 controller card has two places to plug in ribbon cable connectors. this tells me that the card will support more devices. is that correct, to your knowledge? and while that is not part of my original question, it does add to the overall picture. for instance, pw says, "Sounds like a second controller card comes with considerable performance increases at a relatively low cost. Maybe worth looking into." perhaps a second card isn't needed at all, if in fact it's true that two drives will not run concurrently on a single card.

i have posted my question (which is essentially a reposting of pw's question) on another pc forum, and have received a rather in-depth response from a fellow. he states, in part, that he runs "mirrored hard drives... two drives on one controller", and that his "drives use one cable with two connectors, and do not alternate between reads and writes, or one and the other."

i am trying to develop a little bit more info on this topic, as it has caught my attention. the beauty of pw's post #reply-15423694 is that she poses a question as she makes a point. i always enjoy that style of posting.

let me know if more thoughts.

:)
