They already started, didn't they? Seems like they've been phasing out AMD stuff lately and promoting P4s, PIIIs, and Celerons in their "we make it easy" (or something like that) ad campaign.

Look where that got 'em. ;-)

Actually my guess is their dire straits have to do with a combination of factors (e.g. current lack of PC demand; starting brick-n-mortars at the wrong time; pushing 'services' rather than playing to their strength of direct order quality PCs) but what do I know?

Why is it that companies always want to expand into new areas rather than continuing to excel in the thing that got 'em there in the first place? (GTW --> service & brick-n-mortar vs. direct order PCs; INTC --> everything-under-the-sun vs. microprocessors, etc, etc). I guess it is because some have been successful at it (MSFT --> everything-under-the-sun vs. DOS).
