"As far as payroll taxes"

Not in Texas. We don't do that here. The big taxes are property taxes and sales and gasoline taxes. Business have some others, and there is the severance tax for oil and gas. If property taxes change, then peoples monthly payment changes. Since mine is paid for, I get a bill every January, I pay it in one lump sum. It's nice to know how much that is before I have to pay it.

"Most state employees work for the unions"

Again, this is Texas, we don't do unions much here at all. I was employed by the state during the Bust and I know. No multi-year contracts either for most positions. Admit it, you don't have the faintest clue how things operate down here, do you?

"The amount of corruption we have here locally is mininal"

If true, good for you. Hmm, correct if I am wrong, but doesn't soft money refer to those ads and stuff during campaigns? And don't the Republicans do more soft money than the Democrats?
