The above sounds completely different to ECD's technology which is a 'phase-change' of chalcogenide material with power (electrical or optical) input. For optical purposes the phase-change corresponds to a change in the refractive index of the material and hence a change in the reflectivity of the material.

Looking for other ECD references to use of this for optical storage.

The pit-depth modulation is what is used to achieve multi-level storage on the CD-ROM and DVD-ROM disks recorded at the factory.
