They make me feel thankful, but guilty too. Am I doing enough? I feel I ought to take a kid in. I'm already caring for my 97 year old grandmother. For me the Respect for Life , Prochoice - Anti Abortion platform as written by Reverend Barron is a sensitive idealistic yet realistic, balanced option to reduce the need for abortion, promoting contraceptives, male responsibility.

"Given the choice, most women would choose not to need an abortion."

The more birth-control and conception prevention is limited, the more babies will be born, both healthy and special needs kids. Adoptive families are already scarce for difficult to place, non white, imperfect to severely handicapped babies. I feel that once the professed shortage of healthy babies is filled, there will be left an increasing pool of profoundly needy kids without homes like Le Paris, and unadoptable shells with FAS, anencephaly... Who would choose the profoundly retarded child while a bright child with more potential is waiting? What will happen to the neediest? Will orphanages become vast repositories of tragic tales and empty shells awaiting a home that never materializes? Likewise wealthy Americans won't be seeking foreign adoption. Shouldn't we support choice internationally, or at least not penalize those agencies that disclose the option of abortion? Have you read the accounts of international sex tourism and trafficking to wealthy third world johns? That is not life either.

This link is well worth reading and rereading, there are some very balanced subtleties that escaped me on the first read:
