That said, the last couple days pullbacks could be viewed as orderly basing after the breakout of the downtrend line on the XAU dailies (it currently sits at 49.5 or so)

Since the XAU is now a mongrel index, debased by the presence of PD, we'll look at it on the HUI weeklies:

I think you can make a good case here for the "cup and handle" base breakout so beloved by the Wm J. O'Neil school for chartophiles. A 20 week cup with a 3 week base prior to the breakout last week....if so, it needs to stay over the pivot high of 50.39 from mid-January.

When it DOES pop for real, I expect a move similar to RMBS 2/00 on steroids (given the rather staggering short interest)...so if we pop straight away from here, you may not get those bargain Maple Leafs you crave!<G>
