Jim, it is normal for software companies to have low book value. The assets are the people. To me management attitude is much more important in these cases. I've walked away from companies, taking with me years of critical experience in their software, simply because changes in management policy irritated me. Never failed to make more money at the next job, usually quite a bit more. In some cases I went to work for their competitors or customers. My actions were common for the software industry.

Unfortunately management attitude is a very difficult thing to measure unless you know employees in the company.

<<The scary thing about ORCL is the book value at $.88 per share, selling at a forward PE of 42X. I'm just in for a quick bounce.>>

In which direction?

Best of luck.
