yes, the Taliban are seen as a lesser evil compared to the communists...i'm not so sure about that, since communism in Afghanistan would never have been institutionalized the way it was in Eastern Europe...too alien to the culture.

the Taliban are crazy fanatics imo...a disgrace for Islam. it's as if we re-established the Spanish Inquisition.

i realize though that we have little chance to influence what happens in Afghanistan...they will have to sort it out themselves. but still i think that no-one has the right to destroy these monuments...they belong to all of humanity.
