I agree that buying back stock has it's advantages but there are reasons for companies to have cash available... acquisitions or debt reduction. David Rickey HATES debt (his own words) and I believe they did a secondary last year near this price level.

So, if amcc were to buy back shares, they could reduce some of the future dilution due to stock options, but if they wanted cash they'd have to do another secondary later. In this market, it's not likely to go over well.

Plus, there are alot of companies that announce stock buybacks that never go through with it.

Kodak just suspended their buyback to reduce debt.
