I was told that in order to afford a house, many Japanese have taken out 50 yr. mortgages or even longer. Guess that's why extended families live together. There are two or three generations paying for the house. <ng>

Also was told that most home sales are not outright sales, but 100 year leases, and there are very few actual land transfers amongst the lower and middle classes. Their Real Estate Bubble was the biggest the world has ever seen, and they are still suffering for it more than a decade after the top.

Bubble fact: There has been more money lost on real estate speculation (Japan and elsewhere) than all other forms combined.
