I think AG intentionally brought the market down (he kept warning of overvaluations), but severely underestimated the impact on the general economy.

Ever think your talking to a wall? LOL

In retrospect it's pretty easy to see that the Y2k pump up was impossible to maintain and after the straight up climb. the aerobatic stunt plane stalled and went into a dive. Hopefully pulling out before it crashes and burns.
The Nasdaq looks pretty close to the baseline now. DUnno about the DOW.
