The $400 call on AMZN happened before Blodget was at Merrill and the stock made it nearly $600 so that call is less likely to hurt him and won't impact Merrill.

The Washington Post story could be a real nightmare. Merrill's own official comment letter to the SEC in regard to FD made statements that were contradicted by the Post article. That occurred even though the Post article was published first.

The one crutch that an analyst can fall back on, and they have used it in the past, is to say that their research was "approved" for release by someone other than themselves. So they leave the door open for a scapegoat.
