Tony, Intel has divided out the mobile market into four segments, if you haven't realized.

1) Full-size
2) Thin-n-light
3) Mini-notebooks
4) Sub-notebooks

Notice how they are all broken out by power requirements. It's no surprise that AMD can only attack #1 and Transmeta only #4. What is surprising is that Intel predicts the Thin-n-light notebooks to overtake all other mobile segments in the next few years.

The AMDroids could accuse Intel of artificial market segmentation and spreading thin-n-light FUD (pun intended). But I don't know of anyone else in the industry who disputes Intel's predictions, and it's not like Intel is being given the benefit of the doubt these days.

Tony - Re: 'Dell, Toshiba: We want Intel's power-saving chip....Knock at Transmeta?"

Yep - Intel is now VERY MOTIVATED in tuning their CPUs for the mobile market.

That will make it difficult for TransMeta - which will probably become the Cyrix/IDT/Rise of this year.
