Where is the imagination that built Silicon Valley...maybe not replaced, but servers will be supplemented for sure with server like smaller PALM devices, which granted will need to be revvvvved up or should I say RAMmed up with the fastest best chips doing analog and digital in parallel simultaneously....its a question of time and price points.
You said: "Server boxes for web and application servers are not going to replaced by Palm devices." I think PALM has the best shot just based on the software....thousand of applications, portable from the PALM OS to WAP, and now BLUETOOTH etc etc. Microsoft MSFT is only where it is because it dominated the entore software market, no computer professional will say that DOS or even WINDOWS is as powerful as UNIX or LINUX or that the GUI is as fast or good as the APPLE or MAC OS (all based on what was "learned or borrowed" from XEROX). PALM has this market share, and when these devices happen, PALM will survive and thrive. In the meantime, PALM will prosper as business budgets are better spent on PALM like communication PDA devices than going the whole cow for more desktop upgrades....better to keep the old desktop and supplement your staff's productivity with PALM devices. Its cheaper, then you can skip to next higher workstation rollout, when the multi-Gigabyte chips roll out at INTC, AMD, MOT (AAPL), SUNW, and TMTA too.
I am,
Truly your$,
