Synergy report on telecom spending businesswire.com Optical Networking Equipment posted substantial growth rates in Q4 increasing over 30 percent to $7.8 billion from the year ago quarter. Nortel and Alcatel remain the dominant players in the Optical market with Nortel and Alcatel garnering the No. 1 and No. 2 positions of 32 percent and 26 percent, respectively. Of interest is the rotation to new technologies and the fact that Q4 optical still grew at a 30% rate. Appears that positive growth is inversely proportional to sector valuation. People's expectations were just set way too high in 2000 and we are now suffering from 'irrational depression'.
