I think your characterization is a little extreme. I remember a famous juxtaposition on a newscast of a general or colonel in our Army during the Vietnam War talking about how Asians did not value life the same was we did, followed by a poor Vietnamese woman wailing over the corpse of her child. However, it is true enough that the exigencies of poverty may produce suspend the niceties in dealing with harsh realities......
