i'll have to read through all of this later...anyway, the foot and mouth disease is just another one of those global bad news events that seem to pile up lately...bear markets are typically accompanied by all sorts of unrelated bad news. don't know why, but it's happening every time.

TA, I normally go for a long hike in the countryside on a Saturday morning. No chance today because the Foot & Mouth disease needs to get fixed, which it will be with the draconian measures taken in the UK. The same was done eventually with BSE, though it took some time to convince the gubberment to actually fix it. All this was highly profiled in the press and many (a convincing case that human beings are easily brain washed) believe both are a "UK" problem. In the mean time France (just one country I pick at random) has had a BSE problem as long as the UK has. It has deliberately kept a lid on the problem and tried to contain in secret. It's attempts to contain the problem have been unsuccessful. On the other hand, if I know some beef is originated from the UK I know it is safe from BSE. One rumor on the latest Foot and Mouth problem is that it originated from swill given to pigs that had Greek food in it. Your links support the theory. Lets hope we all co-operate and fix de problem, Pearly.
