Thurston,

I admire your outlook on child raising. It should be viewed as work, as a commitment for many years with no mental vacations. I'd like to think after 20 years or so a child would become more of an equal than a child. This would make those "golden" years more relaxed.

The time span was only 2 years and it was never fun. The thought always was there. And it is an ugly thought. For me, I knew I was on automatic pilot if the need was there to use lethal force, but I never enjoyed a minute of thinking it could happen.

With my own family, I can think of nothing I would like more than dismantling the person who tries to harm them.

Most major manufacturers have specialized rounds for use on living targets. What you are using now would fail without repeated hits unless you are perfectly in the "bowling pin" zone. I use black talon for almost everything. They are not available anymore but similar rounds are out there. Any good gun shop will guide you. The round nose has a tendency to act as a large hypodermic needle and slips through without explosive damage. This often leads to the felon continuing his path of damage for more time than you want. The return of fire, the knife wound or the clubbing is still very possible when the bullet fails.
