Heinz, think in a frame of side wise moves and a slow down payment of debt. Still people are working and are productive, they key is lowering interest rates so more of the principal should be payed back.

As to fiat money as long as people belive in it you can print it and solve the problem and then in prosperous times to retrace.

US is in a special position as most of the Eastern Block and Asia are using the US dollar as their defacto currency, and much of that fiat money is accumulated under mattresses earning no interest. Just as an example Russia get a weekly delivery of $100 to $200 million on a weekly basis courtesy of a known NYC bank. It all goes under mattresses ............... speaking od savings rate ................. other do it for the US.

Now multiply for Eastern Europe and Asia and you get an impressive number

As such money supply is not as bad as it appears it soaked under mattresses .............well until they lift the mattresses of course <GGG>
