Your point is good except for one thing. Intel had to dumpster thousands of motherboards made before they figured this out. Not what you'd expect from Intel.

Only two slots may not be as important now since bigger sticks of RAM are more readily available and cheaper than in September/Oct 1999.

Still, there are problems with the 760...but if it works well with 2 slots they should launch now.

Dropping the third DIMM slot is BAAAD. Regardless of who does it. 2 DIMM slots just doesn't cut it in a server setting. For 99% of home users, it doesn't matter, though.
