I recall the first K7 ran at 600 Mhz in the lab but Intel thought it wouldn't make 500 Mhz or maybe it was Youseless saying it wouldn't make 400 Mhz.
I believe that motorola was lending it's copper technology and testing the chip along with AMD. Could have been bad information, though.
