Or, arrogant and hegemonic... the point is that people have lots of ideas and many scientific ideas prove to be wrong - especially when there is a significant moral issue at stake. And wrong is wrong. The merit of being less wrong is a highly subjective thing.

Society can be wrong about sperm being fully formed and sentient beings, ad infinitum, in a fractal of the absurd. Many people also developed a whole morality about the nature of beings with it being based upon wrong notions. Now the ideas are repackaged with new data to support old wrong conclusions.
