Handspring hopes to gain an "edge"

"I received some pictures of what seems to be Handspring's yet to be released Visor "Edge" PDA this week and since I haven't found a way to publish them without compromising the source, I haven't said much about the new device. Now that I'm getting a good number of emails from users wondering why other sites are covering the "Edge" and we're not, I've decided to give you as much information as I can without getting anyone in trouble. Basically, I've been told that the new device will have an all metal case, PalmOS 3.5, 8MB RAM, a lithium (ion or polymer are uncertain) battery, a detachable Springboard adaptor, and it will be the the lightest & thinnest Visor yet. The pictures show a stylus that is attached but resides outside the unit which looks a bit odd to me. The key part of the new device seems to be that it is similar to the Sony CLIE as far as size is concerned meaning the standard Springboard slot is too big to fit "inside" the unit. This is where the adapter comes in. From the pictures I've seen, it looks like the adapter is your typical piggy-back arrangement allowing folks to use full size Springboard modules, but *outside* the actual device itself similar to how iPaq users can use CF cards in the CF Sleeve, but the Springboard adapter doesn't cover the entire length of the unit. I also have to wonder if Handspring is planning a "slim" Springboard spec to be used in the Edge devices without the adapter. Now you know everything I know with the exception of the pictures, and once we find a way to publish them, you'll see those as well. Right now the Visor Edge is expected to hit stores in April/May according to my sources."
