Jack and Ray:

I really don't know where you are coming from, but
xDSL is in fact an area where BRCM is quite weak
and hardly figures as a significant player when
compared with ALA or GSPN.

At $40/month for DSL or cable modem service, no carrier can make money. They (ILEC or CLEC) have given it away just like much of the rest of the Internet industry for the past 2 years. Now they realized they can't do it anymore. Until the carriers can charge $100/month and people are still standing in line to pay for it (DSL or cable), the high-speed Internet is just another passing fad.
