Asian Firms Must Nurture B2B Commerce to Compete with West,
BCG Says

March 2, 2001 (SEOUL) -- For Korean and other Asian companies to maintain
competitiveness with their Western counterparts, an effective development of B2B
e-commerce is essential, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) said.

In a report on the 'e-competitiveness' of Asian companies, BCG said that if Asian
countries fail to adapt to the B2B business environment, they will lose competitiveness
in comparison to companies in Europe and the United States, the two biggest export
markets for Asian countries.

When the B2B market flourishes, we expect business transaction fees to be less than 0.5
percent, a BCG official said. He added that falling fees and fierce competition in the
e-marketplace would result in a decline in the number of B2B companies.

The consulting group added that unclear business procedures and various payment
methods are the main obstacles in Korea's B2B market. It said that the government
should revise and improve related government policies to buoy the local B2B market.
