Yes the evidence is clear, Democrats can not stop spending money. Every year they controlled the house they spent more and more. Eisenhower had a war during his years. You remember the Korean war? Johnson inherited the budget deficit from Kennedy. His costly new social programs had not kicked in yet. These were passed by the Democratic controlled Congress. Of course, the Vietnam "police action" did not help much either (started by either Johnson, Kennedy, or Truman depending on which interpretation you use as to the start of this conflict). War is a notorious creator of deficits.

To simplify:

Democrats control House -> huge increases of debt.
Republicans control House -> huge decreases of debt
