A usual test is a material change in a company's affairs. I'm not sure about the use of the word 'customer' in this context. 'Shareholder' is the word we should be using. Someone posted that the flare on #1 increased over a 5 day period- so if history repeats itself there will have to be several days of testing before any judgement can be made. A successful test would be of greater materiality to the shareholders of KOB than BKP, so I can't see why KOB, for example, might not issue a NR at the appropriate time, independent of the operator.

IMO, reports of the flare and its size and progress will (should?)have an effect on the stock prices. If the prices and volumes go wild the Exchanges might call a halt and ask for a release, but short of that the companies might wait some time before reporting.

AMEN to your reply on why a NR on the perfing completion would be desirable.
I don't know what Grayhairs long convoluted point was about, or if he had a point

"Why the hush hush mentality, in this business. Oil and gas companies trade at 3 to 10 times earnings while tech stocks trade at ?????(rediculous) time ???. Why do you think that is? I think part of it is the hush hush mentality that doesn't provide any ''glitz'' and therefore doesn't attract any attention."

A good example is ELK.What a dinosaur when it comes to promotion. You would think with a market cap of $150 million they could afford to spend $20,000 for a web site?
Or at least employ someone full time to deal exclusively with investor enquiries.
Canadian oil patch is still an old boys club.Investors are treated as a nuisance by many companies.
Only option for outsiders is to follow the money.Look for volume and a strong chart.

Dad, I obviously grossly misinterpreted one of your previous statements which read:
<<Just hope the partnership and operator are better prepared and ready to issue a proper press release this time, with the perfing facts.>>

I guess I better re-enroll in that course on English as a first language !! From your response to my post it is now obvious (even to me !!!!) that what you actually desire is a serious "marketing" effort .... that is hype, glitz, perhaps a hospitality room with free bar, hors d'ouvres, beautiful young hostesses .... in any event, something more than just a statement of "perfing facts". <gg>

And, silly me, I thought you were just wanting to hear that the JV are completing an interval of the Lower Carneros sand between xx,xxx and xx,xxx ft with x shots per ft using yy gram charges phased at zz degrees which will perforate the casing and penetrate the formation to a depth of 56 inches !!! (an example of what I would consider to be interesting but rather immaterial "perfing facts".)

Dad, my obvious poor grasp of the Queen's English has us heading down a path I really do not wish to travel. But, following your valued lesson in marketing and what it takes to create true shareholder value, I do wish to make a couple of final comments and ask one last question on this subject.

I agree that JV share prices (and those of MANY other O&G companies) have been less than satisfactory over the last couple of years. But, I also observe that "Glitz" doesn't seem to be holding up the tech sector of late. I conclude then that the techs and dotcoms need to get out and tell us their story once again, too. I imagine that's all that it would take to quickly restore investor confidence in those lofty new paradigm multiples we've all begun to believe in !!! <gg>

Regarding your news release, you may want to contact the newswires and retrieve it for editing as BKP#2 when completed and onstream will not be the deepest producing gas well in California. That glory will remain with BKP#1 for a while, unless ....

Dad, you seem to think that I am against business promotion, periodic meetings with the brokerage community, institutional investors and shareholders, press interviews, webcasts, TV appearances, touting one's own horn, etc.. Well, BIG surprise dad, I'm not !!!! But, I am aware of Officer and Director Liability and of the growing frequency of Class Action Litigation. Perhaps wrongly, I believe that your proposed release (if issued within a few hours of firing the perforating guns) would be a very "risky" proposition for a JV participant. Obviously, your proposed release was not vetted by an unemotional engineer, geologist or lawyer with some knowledge of boring technical\operational "stuff" !!! <gg>

Finally, my question relates to your statement that:

<<...it is what the investors, brokers and analysts, following the ELH play are waiting for(in my somewhat uneducated opinion) to ensure we don't have a repeat of the BKP#1 rumour.>>

Well, I'm admittedly just one very dense, dumb old engineer, dad. So, please do take a couple minutes and clearly explain to me how your proposed press release would prevent (i.e. "ensure we don't have a repeat") an untimely, false and damaging rumour (which we both agree is what happened at BKP#1) ??? I look forward to your enlightening answer.

Have a great day.

Later,
grayhairs
