Truly when people say "We are of a like mind" it seems to suggest we are tapping into a thing greater than ourselves. I particularly like the idiom "we have the same idea". It creates a physical abstraction and an embodiment of the idea itself as a self-contained entity. It feels that way to me. We don't say "we a an idea that is substantially similar", we think it is the SAME.
